Common Uses:
Motrin is an NSAID. Exactly how it works is not known. It may block certain substances in the body that are linked to inflammation. NSAIDs treat the symptoms of pain and inflammation. They do not treat the disease that causes those symptoms. Motrin is used for Treating rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, menstrual cramps, or mild to moderate pain. It may also be used for other conditions as determined by your doctor.
How to use:
General dose for Rheumatoid Arthritis and Osteoarthritis, is 1,200 to 3,200 milligrams per day divided into 3 or 4 doses. Your doctor will tailor the dose to your individual needs. Symptoms should be reduced within 2 weeks. Daily dosage should not be greater than 3,200 milligrams.
To treat mild to moderate pain or menstrual pain the general dose is 400 milligrams every 4 to 6 hours as necessary.
Warning and Precautions:
Motrin may cause dizziness or drowsiness. These effects may be worse if you take it with alcohol or certain medicines. Use Motrin with caution. Do not drive or perform other possibly unsafe tasks until you know how you react to it.
Serious stomach ulcers or bleeding can occur with the use of Motrin. Taking it in high doses or for a long time, smoking, or drinking alcohol increases the risk of these side effects. Taking Motrin with food will not reduce the risk of these effects. Contact your doctor or emergency room at once if you develop severe stomach or back pain; black, tarry stools; vomit that looks like blood or coffee grounds; or unusual weight gain or swelling.
Motrin has ibuprofen in it. Before you start any new medicine, check the label to see if it has ibuprofen in it too. If it does or if you are not sure, check with your doctor or pharmacist.
Do not take aspirin while you are using Motrin unless your doctor tells you to.
Lab tests, including kidney function, complete blood cell counts, and blood pressure, may be done to monitor your progress or to check for side effects. Be sure to keep all doctor and lab appointments.
Important safety information:
Motrin may cause harm to the fetus. Do not take it during the last 3 months of pregnancy. If you think you may be pregnant, contact your doctor. You will need to discuss the benefits and risks of taking Motrin while you are pregnant. It is not known if Motrin is found in breast milk. Do not breast-feed while taking Motrin.
Side Effects:
Any of the medicine can cause side effects. If the side effects occur seek medical attention or consult with your doctor for more information. Anyway such common side effects may bother you: diarrhea, stomach pain, dizziness, headache, temporary vision changes, nausea, tiredness, vomiting. Seek medical attention if any of these side effects occur: chest pain, allergic reactions, difficulty swallowing or breathing, fainting, irregular or slow heartbeat, shortness of breath, unusual stomach pain, painful or prolonged erection.
Overdose:
Almost any medicine taking in excess doses without consultation with your doctor can cause an overdose. Symptoms may include decreased urination; loss of consciousness; seizures; severe dizziness or drowsiness; severe nausea or stomach pain; slow or troubled breathing; unusual bleeding or bruising; vomit that looks like coffee grounds.
Missed Dose: If your doctor gave you strict instructions not to miss dose and if you missed one take the missed dose as soon as you remembered. If it is time for your next dose, skip it and continue taking you medicine regularly. Do not double the medicine. It can cause severe side effects.

Storage conditions:
Ibuprofen should be kept away from heat, direct light, water, moisture at a room temperature (approximately 23 degrees C ). The medicine should be kept in a place unreachable for children.
